Optics Day. Saturday 16th June
We know not strictly a new product but we wanted to advertise our optics day on the front page. All the main optical companies will be with us with their latest products. Swarovski, Zeiss, Opticron,RSPB/Viking, Marchwood ( Forest Optics), Newpro (Vortex), Deben (Hawke) Manfrotto and Gitzo tripods . In addition the local RSPB group and the BTO (British Trust for Ornithology) will be with us. We hope to get a few more displays at short notice and will advise on these in due course. Tea and coffee will be available and the site will be open across the wild flower/ butterfly meadows should you wish for a walk round. So remember Saturday 16th June !
Here is a good idea! Kenko (not the coffee people) have produced a telescope eyepiece prism to connect to camera lenses called ‘lens2scope’. We have it in angled version to fit either Nikon or Canon. It works very well and extends the use of any lens turning it into a practical hand held or mounted telescope. Magnification will vary according to the focal length of the lens. A useful way of carrying a light weight item in a camera bag for the occasion when a little extra magnification is required. Price is not too outrageous at £149.99
If you want a really good binocular below £1000 then the new Vortex Razor HD must be considered. It has modern open hinge design, long eye relief with adjustable eyecups, close focus to around 8 feet, and is as bright and sharp as more expensive models. It comes with the Vortex unlimited exchange warranty and is a serious contender. Come and test to be convinced.
We have just taken into stock a range of Ridgeline Highlander clothing. Really tough but quiet breathable coats, trouser, and gilets. Colours olive and navy blue for the ‘vests’. Prices are very reasonable for the quality at £135 ROAR jacket, £85 for ROAR trouser and £195 for the full set. Aurora vests are £50.

New Leica Trinovid 8×42 and 10×42 binoculars have arrived. This is slightly cheaper than the Ultravid range but very nearly as good. Feels a little slimmer in the hand but has a very nice ‘engineered’ feel. Close focus not quite as good but still adequate at 3.5m. Bright and sharp as you would expect so if you are thinking top binocular this must feature on the short list.
Based on the Verano PC, for some time our top-selling Opticron binocular, but with completely updated, high-definition optical systems for only a fraction more money than the previous version, the new Opticron Verano HD is now available. Click here to view.
